For nearly a decade, I’ve had this idea brewing in the back of my mind—a vision to build something that would bring clarity to the way we consume news and information. The concept of TruePoint didn’t happen overnight; it came from years of frustration, questioning, and a strong desire to understand how media influences our perceptions.

Back in the day, the technology just wasn’t there to bring my vision to life. But recently, with huge advances in AI, natural language processing, and machine learning, I realized that the tools I needed were finally within reach. And that’s how TruePoint began to take shape.

The Problem: Media Bias and Misinformation

One of the biggest issues I noticed over the years was how easily information could be manipulated. With the internet and social media dominating our news feeds, it became almost impossible to tell whether what we were reading was objective or heavily influenced by bias. Even well-intentioned reporting can be framed in a way that nudges people toward a certain narrative, and this bothered me. We’ve all seen it—the same story covered by different outlets can feel like two completely separate events.

More concerning was how misinformation and disinformation could spread unchecked. When people are only exposed to one side of a story, or worse, false information, it creates an environment where it’s difficult to trust anything. And that lack of trust undermines everything—our institutions, our decision-making, even our relationships with each other.

I knew there had to be a way to cut through the noise and get to the heart of the matter—what’s really being said, and where is the bias coming from?

Why Bias Detection Matters

Media bias isn’t always malicious. Journalists are human, after all, and everyone has their own worldview. But when you’re reading a news article, it’s easy to miss the subtle ways bias can influence what you take away from a story. It can be in the choice of words, the sources cited, or even what information is left out.

That’s where TruePoint comes in. The goal of this project is simple: to uncover bias in news and writing so people can make more informed decisions. It’s about providing transparency, not just in what is being reported, but in how it’s being reported. TruePoint uses AI to analyze the language in news articles, the sources being cited, and the overall sentiment to detect where bias might be creeping in.

Why Now?

Honestly, this project could have never existed five or ten years ago. The technology just wasn’t there yet. But now, with the advancements in machine learning and natural language processing, we have the ability to process vast amounts of data in ways that were previously unimaginable. AI can analyze thousands of articles, detect patterns, and recognize subtle shifts in tone or word choice that signal bias.

It’s no longer a question of “Can we do this?” but “How soon can we make it happen?” And that’s incredibly exciting to me. With these tools, we can give people a better understanding of the information they’re consuming and help foster a more informed public.

The Bigger Mission

The real reason I started TruePoint goes beyond just detecting bias in news articles. It’s about contributing to a larger effort to rebuild trust in the information we consume. With misinformation running rampant, there’s a growing call for governments to step in and regulate news and content. I don’t believe that’s the answer. Once the government starts vetting what is and isn’t trustworthy information, we risk moving toward censorship, and that’s something we can’t afford.

TruePoint exists to empower individuals to make their own judgments about the news they read. By providing the tools to spot bias and understand where it’s coming from, we can keep the power in the hands of the people—not institutions or governments. At the end of the day, information wants to be free, and our goal is to keep it that way.

Looking Forward

TruePoint is still in its early stages, but the journey so far has been exhilarating. Every day, we’re refining our algorithms, expanding our data sets, and getting closer to building a platform that truly makes a difference in how people interact with information. I can’t wait to share more as this project develops.

Thanks to everyone who has supported this journey so far. We’re building something truly impactful, and I’m excited to see where it goes.
